Week 8 Gold: Fantasy or Fools?
By Lamar
A player on your radar had a big game. Do you pick him up? This is where we decide whether their forecast is Fantasy or Fools Gold.
Marquise Goodwin WR Seattle Seahawks
5 targets, 4 receptions, 67 rec yards, 2 rec TDs
Goodwin had two pretty touchdown receptions in week 7 and definitely has the potential to have more big games in the coming weeks. The nine year pro caught the only 2 receiving touchdowns for Seattle and was second on the team in targets behind the hobbled Tyler Lockett. Goodwin moved into the WR2 position when DK Metcalf went down with an injury. While Seattle draws a tough match-up this week with the Giants, Goodwin could have some success in the coming weeks. If Lockett is still dealing with injury and Metcalf is out, then QB Geno Smith will continue to look Goodwin’s direction. Based on the injuries listed earlier, Goodwin has a chance to be Fantasy Gold until the rest of the WR corp is healthy.
Juwan Johnson TE New Orleans Saints
5 targets, 5 receptions, 32 rec yards, 2 rec TDs
In his third start of the season, TE Juwan Johnson came out of nowhere to lead all TEs in scoring for week 7. In what has become a fantasy wasteland this season, Johnson was a bright spot for the 3% of teams that started him last week. Unfortunately for Johnson managers and Johnson himself, this is not a sign of things to come. If someone in your league thinks he is the next Mark Andrews then see if you can trade him for Andrews. Johnson is Fools Gold and you will not be able to rely on him consistently helping your team.
Gus Edwards RB Baltimore Ravens
16 rushes, 66 rush yards, 2 rush TDs
Looks like the Ravens had no intention to ease Edwards back into the game plan. Edwards led the Ravens backfield and looked like the best RB on the team. After rushing for over 700 yards in each of the last 3 seasons, Edwards looked primed to lead the Ravens backfield for the foreseeable future. Until JK Dobbins gets healthy or the Ravens trade for another quality back, Edwards should be Fantasy Gold. I only wish I had the foresight to grab him off waivers before the game.
Chuba Hubbard RB Carolina Panthers
9 rushes, 63 rush yards, 1 rush TD, 3 targets, 2 receptions, 10 rec yards
If healthy, Chuba Hubbard is the RB you want out of the now McCaffrey-less Panthers backfield. Hubbard looked like a man among boys before a sprained ankle knocked him out of the game. The Panthers will continue to give RB D’onta Foreman some carries as well to keep Hubbard fresh, but I believe Hubbard has earned the bulk of the Panther carries going forward based on his production against the Buccaneers. I grabbed Hubbard in my league where he is available and I would suggest you do the same if he is hanging on your waiver wire. If Chuba can stay healthy then he will be Fantasy Gold and a valuable addition to your team.
