Week 5 Gold: Fantasy or Fools?
By Lamar

A player on your radar had a big game. Do you pick him up? This is where we decide whether their forecast is fantasy or fools gold.

Jamal Agnew WR Jacksonville Jaguars

4 receptions, 6 targets, 60 rec yards, 2 TD

Agnew was second in targets for the Jaguars in Week 4 and caught the only 2 receiving touchdowns. In a game without WR Zay Jones, Agnew stepped up and played the WR2 role to WR1 Christian Kirk. While Agnew is capable of decent lines when Jones is unavailable, it would be difficult for him to carve out a larger role with the Jaguars. Agnew had a nice day, but considering he only had 2 catches in the previous 3 games then he needs to stay on your wire. Give me Zay Jones any day, while Agnew remains Fool’s Gold.

Josh Reynolds WR Detroit Lions

7 receptions, 8 targets, 81 rec yards, 1 rec TD

The second leading receiver on the offensive juggernaut that is the Detroit Lions? Yes please! The Lions offense is firing on all cylinders right now and if you can get a piece of the action then why not? Last week Reynolds had 6 receptions for 96 yards, so this is his 2nd strong performance in a row. Unfortunately these lines are a result to injuries to the Lions usual WR1 and WR2, Amon St. Brown and D.J. Chark. If these two remain sidelined then Reynolds will be a WR to stream because the of the legit Lions offense and the fact that they will be playing from behind for the foreseeable future. However unless there is a long term injury to St. Brown or Chark Reynolds remains Fool’s Gold.

Raheem Mostert RB Miami Dolphins

15 rush attempts, 69 yards, 2 receptions, 3 targets, 12 receiving yards

This is Mostert’s second appearance in this column and for good reason. He is still owned in less than 50% of standard leagues despite the fact that he looks like the Dolphins’ new RB1. Mostert had 10 more rushing attempts than presumptive RB1 Chase Edmonds while both had 2 catches. Even though Edmonds grabbed the TD, Mostert is the guy you want on this team. QB Tua Tagovailoa has been ruled out Week 5, so Teddy Bridgewater gets that start for the Dolphins. Bridgewater does not have the arm strength of Tua, so there is a chance we see a lot more dump passes out of the backfield. Mostert remains Fantasy Gold, so pick him up if he is available in your league.

Corey Davis WR New York Jets

5 receptions, 7 targets, 74 receiving yards, 1 TD

So maybe I have some anti-Jets bias. Not sure why, but this is the second time Corey Davis has been featured in this column and for the second time he remains Fool’s Gold. This is his 3rd good line out of 4 games, but I still do not trust him. Or the Jets. Or any NY team for that matter. The bottom line is the Jets offense is shaky at best, and I do not want any part of it. I get the feeling that as soon as you put your trust in one of their players then they will inevitably let you down and cost you a game. Maybe I will change my mind if Davis has another solid game, but until then he remains Fool’s Gold.
