A player on your radar had a big game. Do you pick him up? This is where we decide whether their forecast is fantasy or fools gold.

Curtis Samuel WR Washington Commanders

Wide Receiver Curtis Samuel had a breakout week 1 for the Commanders. He caught 8 passes on 11 targets for 55 yards and a touchdown. Not a bad day for his first game with new Commanders QB Carson Wentz. But wait there’s more! Samuel also had 4 rushes for 17 yards and another touchdown. The Commanders tried to get the ball into Samuel’s hands 15 times in the game which is second on the team only behind starting RB Antonio Gibson.

Samuel led the team in targets and appears to be one of the main focal points for this Commanders’ offense. He showed some explosiveness out of the backfield and Samuel’s versatility had a major impact on the game. There is no reason to believe his week 1 performance was an aberration or a fluke. The Commanders clearly want to feature Samuel in their offense for his big play capabilities. I say Curtis Samuel is Fantasy Gold from here on out with WR2 possibilities. If he is sitting on your waiver wire then what are you waiting for?

Dontrell Hilliard RB Tennessee Titans

Hilliard had some success as a touchdown vulture in Week 1 against the New York Giants. He finished the losing effort with 2 rushes for 8 yards and 3 receptions for 61 yards on 4 targets with 2 touchdowns. Remember Hilliard made some noise last season when Titans starting RB Derrick Henry was sidelined with an injury. Has Hilliard carved out a role in the Titans’ passing game to be a weekly fantasy asset? I doubt it.

Derrick Henry is still in Nashville and deserves the bulk of the carries for this team. Hilliard is nothing more than an insurance policy for Henry owners at this point. His points this week were touchdown dependent and there is no way you can count on him finding the endzone every week. Should Henry get injured then Hilliard would absolutely be fantasy gold, but for now he remains Fools Gold.
