Before we get into Week 9’s Starters, let’s see what I got right and what I got wrong with the starters from week 8.
QB: Dalton had 229 yards with 2 TDs and no TOs. Slightly above average makes me right. Cousins had 232 yards with 2 passing TDs and a rushing TD; these stats make me right to start him too. But there then is Mills. I was quite wrong about him. Football. Ugh.
RB: Mostert only had 64 yards rushing. I mean he had a 4.6 yard average, which is good. Curse you Miami for not running him more to make me right. I was also wrong about Robinson. It wasn’t even close. Speaking of not being close, for those of you who have kept Mixon grounded, looks like you were right to still do so.
WR: Looks like I was wrong about DeVonta Smith. Hurts wouldn’t stop throwing it to Brown. So greedy. I was way off on my thoughts about Wandale Robinson. Looks like the Giants are still looking for their first 100 yard receiver. I was right about D. J. He had 152 yards and a TD. So, yeah.
TE: Taysom Hill got more yards as a runner than as a TE, but the stats still count. His 61 yards are slightly above average so I was slightly right. Gesicki got a TD so that gives me the automatic you are right moniker. I was wrong, however, about Irv. With only 28 yards and no TD, he failed to support me.
D: The Dolphins D got the win with only 1 sack; however, they gave up 27 points and lots of yards. Even with the win, they were a below average play, which makes me wrong. The Jags gave up 21 points, 350 yards, 3 sacks, and a pick. Not bad, but the loss hurts. A push? Or maybe I was a little wrong. The Seattle D gave up 13 points, around 250 yards, 5 sacks and a win. I told you they were playing well.
It’s Mega Bye Week Bye Week. Time to figure who is left and available to possibly put in your starting lineup for this week.
QB:
Marcus Mariota: The Chargers are decent against the pass. I’m not sure he will get a lot of passing yards, but I expect a lot of rushing yards to make up for that.
Geno Smith: If he is not a regular starter for you, feel confident if he is a sub this week for you against Zona.
Justin Fields: Like Mariota, I expect more rushing yards for Fields than passing yards. He might even get some garbage stats if they get behind Miami early.
RB:
Raheem Mostert: Let’s try this again. Even with Wilson joining the team, he should do well. I mean, if Miami runs him like they should because the Bears are not as good against the run as they have been against the pass. And they no longer have Roquan Smith and Robert Quinn.
A.J. Dillon: The Lions are at the bottom of the league in giving up rushing TDs. Green Bay is more of a running team these days anyway. No reason he can’t shine along with Jones.
Jamaal Williams: In that same game, Williams is a solid play too. Green Bay has been better against the pass versus the run so far this year. If Swift sits, Williams will be a great play. If Swift plays, I still say Williams will get plenty of touches to do some damage.
WR:
Drake London: While the Chargers haven’t given up loads of passing yards, they have given up many passing TDs. I say Drake gets on the board.
Allen Robinson: Just like with Drake, while Tampa has not given up many passing yards, they have given up several passing TDs. He will get back on the board this week.
Joshua Palmer: Atlanta has given up the most passing yards so far this year. With Williams out and Allen still healing up, Palmer could get double digit targets this week.
TE:
Noah Fant: He caught 6 balls the last time these two teams played. He could replicate and get a TD this time.
Evan Engram: He got his first TD last week. I say he gets another against a porous Raiders D.
Greg Everett: As previously noted, the Falcons give up the most passing yards in the league, and the top WR options are hurt. If not Palmer, he could be the one that gets double digit targets this week.
D:
The Raiders D has been poor this year. They stayed east after playing east this past week. Will that make a difference? Maybe. They are going up against a flaky Jags team. Why not say they handle the Jags?
The Chiefs haven’t been too bad this year, and they may be your starting D. But, if they are your sub and/or available, they should be a solid play against the Titans who do not light it up. They are an even better play if Tannehill sits.
Let’s keep things in the AFC West with the Chargers. I say they get the win with a few additions to help out. I think Mariota will have to run a lot, but the Falcons stats will not be soaring.
