Before we get into Week 9’s Sitters, let’s see what I got right and what i got wrong with the sitters from week 8.
QB: 133 yards passing with a TD and 2 picks – Oh yeah I was right to sit Trevo. But I was not right about sitting Dak. He had a solid game. Is he back? Is it too late to trade for him? Then there is Tannehill. Well, he ended up not playing, so if you sub Willis who subbed for him, then by the transitive property, since Willis was worse than bad, I was right.
RB: I have said many many times to keep Najee on the bench, and I have been right every time to do so. With 53 yards rushing and 32 receiving with no TD, I was right to sit Montgomery too. He wasn’t as bad, just below average, but that still makes me right. I was also right to sit Henderson. His ypc was not bad; he just didn’t get the touches. I do not think they are sold on him being their guy either.
WR: With only 40 yards receiving and no TD, I told you to sit Kirk next to his boy Trevo, and i was right. And what did i say about Pickens? I said Philly would shut him down compared to the other Steelers receivers and that is exactly what happened. He had no catches. However, I was not right about sitting Aiyuk. He did well with Deebo out. So, this is Deebo’s fault. If Deebo would have played I would have been right. Well, if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, ….
TE: I said whoever plays out of Waller and Moreau to sit them. Well, it was Moreau, and he had 31 yards and no TDs, so I was right, right here. With 74 yards, Shultz was better than average so I was wrong here. I would have been right about sitting Kittle, but he got a late touchdown. I was wrong, but I should have been right. Alas.
D: Looks like the Browns D was the one who did the burning. I was wrong here. They were all over Burrow. The Saints pitched a shut out along with 4 sacks and an INT, and so I was way wrong here too. Meanwhile, the Packers D didn’t do too bad, but they still gave up some points, yards, and got the loss, so I was right to sit them.
With 6 teams out, it is Mega Bye Week Bye Week. With that out of the way, let’s see who is available to maybe consider not starting or benching this week regardless.
QB:
Jared Goff: Don’t do it. Don’t be tempted to play him. With Hock gone combined with the fact that the Pack have been solid against the pass, I hope you have a better option than him as your starter or back up.
Davis Mills: I tried to promote him as a starter last week, and he burned me with his crappy play. So now you are on my sitter list. Take that. Okay, he is here because he is going up against the Philly D, who is, well the Philly D.
Andy Dalton: The Ravens D has been up and down this year. There is the potential for a lot of big plays against him. I wouldn’t trust him to be on his game against the Ravens.
RB:
Brian Robinson: He is still a bit rusty, plus they are still using Gibson enough to worry about getting enough touches out of him. Also, this week he is going up against the Vikings who have been better against the run than the pass so far this year.
Leonard Fournette: He is going up against a Rams team that is at the top/bottom in not giving up rushing TDs. I expect no TDs from him and between 50 and 75 yards rushing. If that is good enough for you, then go ahead. For me, I want the potential for more.
CEH: I mean, he is not going to get you a lot of rushing yards. You have to hope for a screen pass for a TD to save your day if you play him. Not worth the risk for me. I hope you have a better option than playing him.
WR:
DeVonta Smith: I tried to start him last week and he burned me. So, like Mills I am going to sit him. Ha. Okay, it is more than just petty revenge. Houston has been better against the pass so he is a solid choice to sit. Plus, they are going to go up big early and feed Miles sanders.
Chris Godwin: The Rams will shut down either Evans or Godwin, and I say it will be Godwin. Evans usually gets lots of yards or 2 TDs on 3 catches for 5 yards. Godwin is not quite back to where he used to be, or is it Brady’s fault.
Jets WRs: I haven’t liked playing any of these guys so far this year. And the week there are lots of byes they are going up against the Bills. I will keep them on the bench.
TE:
Hockenson: Give him some time people. Actually, even with time, he will probably be the 4th option in the passing game behind Jefferson, Thielen, and Cook. Not sure he will do much more statistically than he did in Rock City.
Mike Gesicki: I mean, what is a weekly sit and start list without this guy being on one of them. This week he made the sit list because he got a TD last week. No way he does that 2 weeks in a row.
Hunter Henry: He has caught 1 pass each of the last 2 games. You just can’t trust him to produce, even in Mega Bye Week.
D:
The Tennessee D is better than average to good, but this week they are going up against Kansas City. I hope you have another D you can play. If not, this might be your D’s worst game of the year.
The Bears D has also been good this year, but they also are playing a wonderfully explosive offense in the Dolphins. I also hope you have another option too.
Finally, the Colts D is another one that has been good, and while their game will probably be closer than the other 2, I just don’t trust them against the Pats. It is not the worst start; it is just not one that breeds confidence.
