Before we get into Week 14’s Sitters, let’s see what I got right and what I got wrong with the sitters from week 13.
QB: Tannehill had 141 yards passing with 1 TD and 34 yards rushing. These stats are well below average making me right to sit him. Cousins had 173 yards passing with 1 TD and 9 yards rushing. This is close to Tanny’s number so I was also right to sit Cousins too. And Matty Ice had 233 yards passing with 2 TDs and 3 turnovers. Those numbers also add up to me being right to sit him. Go get the broom.
RB: Singletary had 51 yards rushing making me rrr, wait, what? He got a piddly TD. Ugh. Well, add that fluke to his yards then he is above average making me wrong. That is just wrong. Speaking of getting a piddly TD but did nothing yardage wise thereby making me wrong – see Miles Sanders too. Then there is Jeff Wilson who barely touched the ball. Were they mad at him? I was more right than I thought I would be about sitting him.
WR: Thielen had 27 yards receiving with no TDs making me right to sit him. Duvernay had 34 yards receiving, 9 yards rushing, and no TDs making me also right to sit him. And with 65 yards receiving with no TDs, I was also right when I said to sit Olave against Tampa. Where’s the broom? Junior, go get me the broom.
TE: Hunter Henry had 13 yards with no TDs. So, of course I was right to sit him. It is kind of not fair when I mention him in a sit article. He hasn’t been statistically relevant all season. Another person that fits this mold is Tonyan. He had 10 yards with no TDs making me right to sit him too. Then there is our guy, Gesicki. Our loyal sit/start man coming through making me right again with his 0 yards on 0 catches with 0 TDS. The broom. I said, go get the broom.
D: The Patriots D gave up 24 points, got the L, gave up over 350 yards with 2 sacks and fumble recovery. This is close, but I believe the L puts them just below average thereby making me right to sit them. The Colts D got the L and gave up 54 points. I do not need to type anything more. I was right to sit them too. The Bengals got the W, held KC to 24 points and under 350 total yards, with 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. Nicely done by them, not me. I was wrong. Never mind. You can put the broom back.
It is mega bye week, so let’s see who is still available to maybe consider not starting or benching this week regardless.
QB:
Even with 6 teams on a bye, do not start Daniel Jones this week. They have Philly, and well they have given up the least amount of passing yards so far this year, and they lead the league in INTs too.
Deshaun Watson, aka Mr. Massage: He is going up against a Cincy D that just held the Chiefs in check. A team that has given up the least amount of passing TDs so far this year. Don’t do it.
Tom Brady: He had a great 3 minutes Monday night against the Saints. San Fran’s D is better than the Saints. Expect him to be bad for more than just 57 minutes this week.
RB:
Fournette/White: Sit both. San Francisco has given up the least amount of rushing yards and have the lowest yard per carry against them so far this year.
Najee Harris: I know. I know. He has looked much better these past few weeks, but he is going up against a Ravens team that is number 2 in rushing yards allowed and in yards per carry as well. Maybe you will get lucky, and he will get a passing TD.
Travis Etienne: Tennessee has the 3rd best yard per carry against and in rushing yards allowed too, and they are tied for the least amount of rushing TDs allowed. These numbers do not bode well for him.
WR:
Michael Gallup: The Texans are much better against the pass than the run. Expect lots of running by the Cowboys. This will leave Gallup on the outside looking in.
Gabe Davis: The Jets D is at the top of the league in both passing yards and passing TDs allowed. Diggs will get his; Davis will not.
KC WRs: You are not going to sit Mahomes, but you should sit his WRs. For one, not one has established himself consistently, and for two, they are going up against a Denver defense that has given up the least amount of passing TDs and is in the top 3 for least amount of passing yards allowed.
TE:
Tampa Bay TEs: Doesn’t matter if it is Brate or Otton or whomever, do not start either one. San Fran is the best in the league statistically against TEs.
Conklin: He had 7 yards against the Bills the last time they played each other. And since the Bills are currently in the top 3 against the position, he shouldn’t do much better this time around either.
Knox: He had 25 yards the last time they played the Jets. I don’t think he will do much better this time around either. This game will be tight and possibly low scoring.
D:
Even noting what I just noted, I wouldn’t play the Jets D against the Bills. Of these 2, the Bills are the more likely to still do well statistically against the other. Not worth the risk of an upset in order to play them.
I also would not play the other New York football team. They are going up against a statistically solid team in Philly. They may make it close, but the real possibility of an L will push them into the sit column.
Finally, even though the Rams D has been better than not, they still have an O that keeps them on the field more than they want. And this week, they are going up against the Raiders who are playing well.
