Before we get into Week 13’s Sitters, let’s see what Lamar got right and what Lamar got wrong with the sitters from week 12.
QB: Lamar was right to sit Marriota who was limited both passing and rushing. He was wrong to sit Goff who was above average, generally speaking, and for himself too. Unfortunately, back to Lamar being right, even if he had not gotten hurt, Rodgers was sub par statistically, and he probably would have stayed that way.
RB: Lamar was right to sit Fournette since, as predicted, he didn’t even play. Does this even count as being right? Boo. He was also right to sit Patterson who had a total of 71 yards with no TDs, however, thanks to a TD, he was wrong to sit Pacheco. That’s the risk with starting RBs.
WR: Gallup had 63 yards with no TD – a below average output making Lamar a shade above being right. Cooks is the same with 59 yards and no TD – another slightly on the correct side for Lamar. Then there is Pickens who had 57 yards with a 2 pt conversation, which put him a little more than these two but still below average, thereby making it a clean sweep for Lamar.
TE: Even though the expectations are lower for tight ends, with 57 yards and no TDs, Hurst was still below average making Lamar right to sit him. Conklin is in the same boat with his 50 yards and no TD either. Another right for Lamar. Finally, with our boy Gesicki, he was super right to sit him for he ended up with no catches. Another clean sweep for Lamar.
D: The Saints D was not bad. They only gave up 13 points and a shade over 300 yards, but, unfortunately, they got the L with only 1 sack as an extra. This totals up to below average, thereby making Lamar right. He was more right to sit the Seattle D who lost, gave up 40 points and almost 600 yards as well as the New England D who got the L and gave up 33 points with little extra. Lamar might know a few things.
Let’s see who is available to maybe consider not starting or benching this week regardless.
QB:
Matt Ryan: He had a better second half against Pittsburgh, but Dallas has proved to have a stronger secondary giving up the least amount of passing yards so far this season.
Ryan Tannehill: He is going up against Philly who has given up the 2nd least passing yards per game and leads the league in INTs. This is not a good recipe for success.
Kirk Cousins: The Jets are one of the two teams who have more INTs than TDs allowed. Also not a good recipe for success.
RB:
Miles Sanders: The Titans D has only given up 3 rushing TDs so far this year. Plus, they are at the top of the league in rushing yards allowed.
Jeff Wilson, Jr.: He is going up against his former club in San Fran. So, there is motivation for him, but the 49ers only give up 3.3 ypc. I am leaning toward a shut down versus a show off.
Devin Singletary: He doesn’t light it up anyway, but he is not a good sub this week either. He is going up against a New England D that has only given up 4 rushing TDs so for this year. That probably means, if there are any in this game, Allen will get them.
WR:
Adam Thielen: As noted, the Jets have been solid against the pass so far this year. The odds are much greater that Jefferson gets his with Thielen on the outside looking in versus the opposite.
Devin Duvernay: He is going up against a Broncos D that is tied for the least amount of passing TDs allowed. And they are at the top/bottom in passing yards allowed as well.
Chris Olave: The QB situation in New Orleans is not good and this affects him. Due to their inconsistent play, and the fact he is going up against a solid Tampa D, the risk is too great this week to play him.
TE:
Robert Tonyan: He did squat the first time he played against the Bears. I expect a lot of diddly this time.
Hunter Henry: He is just not throwing the numbers out there, and this week he has Bills to battle against.
Mike Gesicki: Our boy. Our man to keep the bench warm.
D:
Patriots: They have been solid, but they gave up 33 points to Minnesota last week and this week they have the potent Bills offense.
Bengals: Another team whose D has been solid, but they have the Chiefs this week. Sit them if you can.
Colts: A 3rd D that has been solid so far this year, but they are going up against a Dallas team that played well last week. I expect them to roll here too.
