Howdy ho neighbors. Thanks for coming back to take a read of my start and sit articles. This year, I decided to split things up: a Thursday edition for the Thursday night game and a regular one for the Sunday and Monday games. The Thursday edition will be limited to 3 or 4 in totality regarding the start/sit options between just those 2 teams, while the regular edition will be 2 starts and 2 sits for QB, RB, WR, TE, and Defense, not 3 from each category like last year. And, as always, let’s leave out the obvious like Pat Mahomes who you should start each and every week, including his bye week because, I swear, he is still able to get fantasy points that week too. Let me know what you think on Twitter/X at either brooksie@fantasyrooster1 or Winsto@fantasyrooster.

So, let’s get started. The first Thursday night game this year, as foreshadowed by the Pat Mahomes comment, is the reigning Super Bowl Champs, the Kansas City Chiefs (gross), versus the Detroit Lions.

I will start with the sitters. First of all, do not play either defense. Neither one was a consistent stalwart last year, and each one had games of giving up loads of points. Unless they prove otherwise, neither team made enough changes on that side of the ball to make us think they will be a defense you can count on. Plus, both of these offenses were able to put up some serious points last year, and they have the talent to do so again this one, thereby making this game a potential high scoring affair. With that being said, however, I am a bit cautious about playing a rookie running back on week one. If you got Jahmyr Gibbs, good for you. Good for you (said slowly and snarky like). But I would not play him out of the gate because you just do not know what the coach will do when it comes to his usage rate and scenario usage. I would wait a week, or two, and see what he produces before counting on him to be a starter.

However, I would start his offensive buddy Amon-Ra St. Brown. He established himself last year and should be a regular starter for you each week. If your team is so good that he is a maybe to start, you should turn that maybe upside down and play him in Week 1. As with most teams that play the Chiefs, the Lions will have to score to keep up, and St. Brown’s chances are the greatest on the Lions to do so. Meanwhile, on the Chiefs, if you need a flyer, consider Skyy Moore. It is starting to look like either Kelce will be out, or at the least be managed a bit due to his injury. Considering that, plus the notation that Moore has earned full starter status this year, which means more snaps than last year, he should have some good opportunities to produce this game.

Alright, that is it for our first game of the year. Good luck, and I’ll catch you at the end of the week for the weekend games.
