If the lyrics to a song made famous by Nina Simone do not inspire you and get you excited for this year’s fantasy football year, maybe one by Johnny Nash will – “Look all around. There’s nothing but blue skies. Look straight ahead. There’s nothing but blue skies . . . It’s gonna be a bright (bright), sun shiny day.”
It is week 1, and you want to come roaring out of the gates. Lay down Sally. You take a big gamble or 2 here, and you have lost week 1. Then, when it comes down to the last game of the year, and you lose because you rolled the dice in week 1, you’ll look back on this and go, I should have listened to those cocks at fantasy rooster. Week 1 is a play it safe week. Week 1 is usually a lower fantasy output week compared to other weeks, so every point counts. So, with that being said, let’s see who we should sit for Week 1’s weekend games.
QB:
Jordan Love – From what i have read, he has not exactly lit it up this preseason. I wouldn’t start a “rookie” QB in week 1 any way. Not worth the gamble.
Dak Prescott – I would sit him on sheer principle. The Cowboys are the worst, am i right? He is on the road in New York against a better than average D. Not worth the risk.
RB:
D’Andre Swift – Too many RBs in Philly, plus a QB that likes to run and sneak it in himself. This scenario needs to play itself out for a couple of weeks.
J. K. Dobbins – Not a RB competition issue here, but a ‘who will get the ball?’ competition issue here. Baltimore added some receivers so they will probably do a bit more passing to see who they got to catch the ball, which means, less running plays. He might sneak in a score for you, but he also has a QB that likes to run and sneak it in himself. Plus, the Houston D sneakily did better the second half of the season.
WR:
Mike Evans – I have one question for you: Do you trust Baker Mayfield? If you do, you need more help than I can provide.
D. J. Moore – He has received a lot of preseason noise, but Fields runs more than he throws, so unless he throws exclusively to Moore, the touches do not add up. Also, the Packers D was good last year, particularly the secondary.
TE:
Buffalo Bills TEs – Jets are good against the pass, and we are still not sure if Knox will be just a blocking tight end and Kincaid will get the passes, or not. Their usage rate needs to be set before I trust either one of these guys.
Chigoziem Okonkwo – Another one here with lots of pre-season hype, but his first game is against the Saints, a team that was number one in the league against tight ends last year. Let’s wait a week on him.
Defense:
Dolphins and Chargers: Neither one of these teams played consistently good defense last year. Both teams have made some changes. Both teams have good and talented offenses. On paper, this game should be high scoring, but i have probably jinxed all players here and the final score will be 13 to 10.
